England fans react to Pickford’s first half display v Croatia

|

A number of international supporters have hammered Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his first half performance against Croatia on Sunday.

The former Sunderland man was involved in a hairy moment early on as Fabian Delph’s poor back pass saw him stranded far from his goal.

Ante Rebic was unable to convert the opportunity for Croatia, blazing over the cross bar, but that has not stopped Pickford from receiving a battering from the international fans watching the game on Twitter.

COMMENTARY

The reaction from the England supporters seems a bit much to be honest, doesn’t it? The Croatia chance was really Delph’s fault, not necessarily Pickford’s. Could the ‘keeper have done slightly better and remained a bit more composed? Perhaps. But it was the Manchester City midfielder who put him in trouble in the first place more than it being an error from the Everton man. England were rather lucky that Rebic didn’t do better with the opportunity because it was a big chance for the Croatians to take an early lead at Wembley. However, the Three Lions were let off the hook and Pickford has looked pretty stout since then. For people to suddenly start questioning his quality seems bizarre, especially after how well he performed at the World Cup. Still, football fans tend to have short memories and all Pickford can do is carry on working hard throughout the rest of the game.
