Marcel Brands is nicknamed ‘Indy’ by the Everton board for his passing resemblance to Hollywood star Harrison Ford, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim the sporting director who arrived from PSV Eindhoven over the summer has been affectionately christened for his similarity to the star of the Indiana Jones films.

The Times claim Brands’ influence is starting to be felt at Everton as he builds a strong alliance with not only manager Marco Silva but owner Farhad Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright, director of football operations Dave Harrison and the CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale.

OPINION

Should Brands be flattered or insulted that he has been given a nickname for his similarity to a man 20 years his junior? The Dutchman is relatively youthful at 56 compared to A-lister Ford, although he can at least comfort himself with the fact the board have named him ‘Indy’, remembering the title character of the phenomenally successful 1980s series rather than how the actor looks today. Everton fans won’t care if Brands looks like Harrison or the late US president Gerald Ford as long as he can help bridge the gap between their club and the Premier League top six, who appear to have gone to an entirely new level this season as they take advantage of their greater financial resources. Everton have had a reasonable start to the season and appear to be benefitting from the Brands-Silva alliance following the dismissals of Sam Allardyce and Steve Walsh at the end of last season. But there is a long way to go before the club can repeat the success of the David Moyes era.
