Brighton defender Lewis Dunk is no doubt in dreamland after making his England debut in a friendly against the USA on Thursday night.

So it comes as no surprise that the Express have reported that Manchester United, as well as Everton, are interested in a swoop for his services.

However, it is the Toffees who must win the race for the 6ft 4in [Transfermarkt] powerhouse in what would be an absolute masterstroke by boss Marco Silva.

One of Everton’s current centre-backs, Kurt Zouma, is set to return to Chelsea from Goodison Park in the summer and the club will obviously need to find a top-quality player to replace him – Dunk is just that man.

The Seagulls will certainly be desperate not to lose their fan favourite to one of their Premier League rivals, especially with his impressive displays for the team so far this season.

Some fans will be questioning why one of their mainstays would want to make such a move, and he will definitely warrant a high price tag now he has represented the national team.

Yes, admittedly one of Manchester United problem areas is the centre of defence, but it remains to be seen just how much game time Dunk would get if he moved to one of the top-flight heavyweights.

His talent would be wasted playing for such a team, which is more reason why Everton must win the race for him next summer.

He is the perfect player to replace Zouma once his temporary spell is up, even if many football fans questioned his inclusion in the England team in the first place.

Dunk is a player who puts his body on the line for his team, and there is never a game where his work rate is not admired – so Silva must pull off a blinder by securing his capture next year.
