Arsenal are plotting a swoop to sign Polish wonderkid Sebastian Walukiewicz, according to Football London.

The website claims that the club’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has identified Walukiewicz as a potential addition to Unai Emery’s squad, but other clubs across Europe have also been linked.

The Gunners have sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old on numerous occasions this season, with the centre back starring for Polish side Pogon Szczecin this campaign.

Walukiewicz made his first team breakthrough in the back end of last season, and has ploughed that furrow again this term by making 13 appearances for Pogon.

Good move for Arsenal?

Well, it’s never a bad idea to keep one eye on the future. Having said that, perhaps Arsenal should be prioritising additions who can come in and help the first team immediately. Perhaps Walukiewicz would be able to do that, who knows, but you’d have to say it’s unlikely given his youth. On the other hand, Mislintat proved he could spot a talented youngster with the club’s capture of midfielder Matteo Guendouzi this summer, who has immediately been a hit in the middle of the park for the Gunners. Perhaps Walukiewicz is another such talent, in which case great, but maybe Arsenal should be looking for established world class players instead of youngsters as they look to break back into the top four.

Likely to happen?

Barcelona’s interest in the player should ring alarm bells for Arsenal supporters. It’s incredibly hard to prise a player away from the Spanish side’s clutches and this will likely be no different. Don’t hold your breath on this one, let’s just say that.
