Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has delivered an update on the injury suffered by Kieran Tripper against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 28-year-old, on a reported £40,000-per-week at the club [Source: Spotrac], picked up a groin problem early on in the 1-0 win at Selhurst Park.

However, Pochettino believes the injury isn’t too bad.

“I hope it’s not a big issue,” he said, as quoted by Football London.

“We don’t know,” when asked if the right back would be fit for his upcoming England duty. “We need to see, the doctors and medical staff will assess him and then the medical staff of England and they will see if he’s going to be involved or not.”

OPINION

Pochettino seems pretty uncertain on the severity of Trippier’s problem. He did say that he hoped it wasn’t a big issue which suggests that he hasn’t been told that it is a particularly bad setback. Usually you know fairly quickly whether an injury is very bad or not, and in this case it appears that it hasn’t yet been established that Tripper’s problem was a bad one. That suggests that he shouldn’t be out for a while, but the problem for Tottenham is that he is now scheduled to go away on England duty. That means that the club cannot control his rehabilitation or determine how much football he plays while with the Three Lions. Obviously England won’t go overboard with the player – they have Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker available in his position after all – but Spurs would still prefer to be in possession of Trippier over the next week or so.
