Leeds United have announced that Academy defender Oliver Casey has signed professional terms with the club.

His current deal was set to end next summer and the new deal will see him stay at the club until the summer of 2020.

The news was announced on the official Leeds Twitter page on Thursday morning.

OPINION
Casey is well thought of at Leeds, where he is known as tough and very hard working. His route to success as a player is to make sure he works harder than anyone else, staying late at training if need be. He has said his favourite defender is Sergio Ramos, not the most popular player on the planet, but someone you could never accuse of shirking out of a tackle. Casey himself said he always wanted to be a centre-back and loves a tackle and he’s made the progression up from the Under-18s through to Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s this season. Now he’ll be looking to push on and follow in the footsteps of Jack Clarke, Ryan Edmondson and Tom Pearce, who have all broken through into the first-team. The Leeds youth have been one of the major success stories of the past year and the links between Corberan and the senior team, through manager Marcelo Bielsa, have never been better. It’s a very good time to be a young Leeds player.
