Tottenham are ‘definitely’ interested in signing Wilmar Barrios from Boca Juniors, according to the Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon.

He was asked if Tottenham were looking for players in January and Nixon gave his definitive verdict on Barrios on his personal Twitter account.

However, he said that the 25-year-old defensive midfielder might cost too much money.

OPINION
Tottenham have been linked very heavily with Barrios, with a report saying that a Tottenham delegation had jetted out over a week ago to South America to finalise a deal for him. This is yet more confirmation that there is definitely something being hatched but Nixon does throw a slight spanner in the works – money. The previous report stated that Tottenham were willing to pay £20.4million to sign him in the January window, but will that be enough? If other clubs are interested and the price goes up, then Tottenham might struggle yet again by the sounds of it. However, their need for a new defensive midfielder has intensified today with the news that Mousa Dembele is out with ligament damage until the new year. If he is going to be sold in January then he may never play again, putting a lot of responsibility onto Harry Winks’ shoulders. They desperately need a new midfield anchorman and Barrios, a World Cup star with Colombia, would fit the bill. If Spurs miss out on him because of money though, fans will not be happy.
