A section of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to annihilate Mohamed Diame for his performance in the 1-0 win against Watford at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Diame, 31, was named to start in Rafa Benitez’s midfield for the 11th Premier League game in a row, but the Senegal international did little to impress those who watched on as the Magpies won their first game of the season.

Some Newcastle supporters were furious with the midfielder’s display, with one saying that he is a “liability” to the side.

COMMENTARY:

Diame is someone who blows hot and cold. In the second-half of last season he was phenomenal and looked like a new player that Benitez had signed in the January transfer window. It now seems like that player was sold in the summer because this Diame that we’re seeing right now is absolutely awful. Some Newcastle fans have completed had it with the former Hull player, and you can see why. The Magpies won’t be getting themselves clear of the drop zone for a long-time with players like him in their side. He is short of the quality needed in the Premier League – as one fan points out – and is way too inconsistent to be a regular mainstay in Benitez’s side. Ki Sung-yueng is a better option than him but perhaps too similar to Jonjo Shelvey. Newcastle need January and they need Mike Ashley to free up some funds. That doesn’t seem likely though.
