A section of football fans on Twitter have torn into Newcastle United right-back DeAndre Yedlin for his performance in the USA’s international friendly defeat to England at Wembley on Thursday night.
Yedlin, 25, had a torrid time at right-back as the Three Lions opened the scoring when Dele Alli worked the ball into Jesse Lingard from the Magpies player’s side of the defence.
It was a tough outing for the American full-back and some fans were less than sympathetic towards him on social media.
COMMENTARY:
Yedlin had a tough time in the USA’s trip to Wembley on Thursday so it is no shock to see him being brutalised on Twitter. Some of the reactions are a bit over the top, but that’s usually what happens when supporters start criticising players. Yedlin has had a tough time at Newcastle so far this season but at least he has been on a winning side in his last two club appearances. The right-back has been a mainstay in Rafa Benitez’s starting line-up during the Spaniard’s time on Tyneside. He has played 11 times for the Magpies this term, and even managed to get himself a rare goals in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in September. On paper, Yedlin is without doubt the USA’s best right-back but he needs to be aware that he could be axed for future fixtures if his performances do not improve because fans seem to regularly slate him.

How does DeAndre Yedlin get call ups? #USMNT

On the one hand Yedlin has played probably the only creative pass of the match for the US, on the other he's let 2-3 players that are objectively slower than him run past him.
