Sky Sports anchor and pundit Scott Minto has been left raving over the performance of Leeds United in their 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic on Sunday afternoon and believes “anything is possible” for them come the end of the season.

Goals from Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe secured victory for the Whites at the DW Stadium to send Marcelo Bielsa and his men back to the top of the Championship after their opening 16 games of the season.

Minto was left dazzled by the performance from the visitors, insisting they were back to their best from the early stages of the campaign, and refused to rule out a title push come May.

In a video on his personal Twitter account he said: “His side (Dave Whelan’s) were outclassed today. I thought Leeds were very good – back to how they were in the early part of the season.

“It’s only three wins in eight but they have gone top. I just thought they were excellent in terms of what they did with the ball, what they did without the ball.

“For Leeds, anything is possible (this season).”

Opinion

Is that Minto suggesting that he thinks Leeds could be picking up the Championship title come the end of the season? No one would have predicted that after their performances last season, with many of the same players remaining in the starting XI at Elland Road, but their early performances this campaign suggested that Marcelo Bielsa might have been a miracle worker with some outstanding displays. Things might have dropped off in recent weeks but that does not take away from the fact that victory over the Latics leaves them sitting pretty at the top of the table – the target will be to stay there for the foreseeable future. This was a strong Leeds line up with plenty of players back from injury but it cannot be ignored that the club are picking up an alarming number of setbacks for some of their top stars, and while Minto’s verdict might have been intended with a positive slant in mind, there is no doubt that more blows could derail their season.
