Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has tipped Newcastle United to end their woes in attack with a £20million raid for Blackburn Rovers’s midfield goal machine Bradley Dack after his red hot form in the Championship.

The 24-year-old has continued his fine form from last season – when Rovers were in League One – to net nine goals and chip in with a further five assists in 14 appearances across all competitions, and speaking about the second tier talent he insisted Newcastle would do well to snap him up.

When asked if the Magpies should sign him, Merson told Soccer Saturday’s build up on Sky Sports News (14:45, 10/11): “All day long. 100 percent, he’s a good player.

“He won’t shy away – if you want to play for Newcastle you can’t shy away.

“He has good movement, he scores goals – that’s exactly what Newcastle need. That ticks every box, even if it’s £20million.”

Opinion

Merson thinks that Dack would be a fine fit for Newcastle and you can be sure that manager Rafael Benitez would like to make the Blackburn man part of his squad – but that £20million price tag is well out of the range the Spaniard has to spend. It is for this reason that Newcastle fans worldwide would love to see Mike Ashley out the door sooner rather than later and a more ambitious owner come in – one who is willing to spend the sort of money that their Premier League rivals are. If that were the case, then Newcastle might have a chance of snapping up Dack, as they can offer him regular game time along with an improved wage. Instead, thoughts of signing the Blackburn man will remain a pipe dream, and do not be surprised for a Premier League side to make their move in January after his fine performances in the second tier this season.
