Leeds United have been hit with a major blow during the international break with Jamal Blackman returning to Chelsea after breaking his leg in an Under-23s game.

That leaves Marcelo Bielsa with just one senior goalkeeper in his squad in Bailey Peacock-Farrell, but even the Northern Ireland international has failed to impress in his recent performances and Leeds’ promotion hopes could hinge on who the Argentine signs in the January transfer window to strengthen his goalkeeper options.

It is now the perfect time for Leeds to attempt to re-sign Rob Green from Chelsea.

The 38-year-old has not made a single appearance since leaving Elland Road to join Huddersfield in 2017.

Chelsea signed him up in the summer and Maurizio Sarri is yet to even name him in one of his matchday squads, let alone give the ex-England international an appearance.

Green would more than likely love the chance to play again before his career ends, or at least getting onto the bench somewhere, and he would be the perfect addition for Leeds in the January transfer window.

His £20,000-a-week (Spotrac) wages are more than affordable for the Whites if they want to re-sign the 6ft 3 colossus (transfermarkt) on a half-season loan or even a permanent

Peacock-Farrell, 20, could also benefit from training and working alongside a goalkeeper who has heaps upon heaps of experience, so the Elland Road youngster could be a massively improved goalkeeper next season by the time Green moves on.

Elland Road would erupt with glee if Bielsa was able to secure a return for the ex-Leeds man. At the end of the day, the Bielsa cannot do without a goalkeeper for the rest of the season and one of Green’s experience and previous affiliation with the Yorkshire giants proves that he is the right man to go for.
