A section of Leeds United fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that the club is set to play Manchester United in a friendly in Australia next summer.
Aussie news outlet The World Game has reported that plans for the two great rivals to play each other in Perth are expected to be announced on Wednesday.
It is understood Leeds will also play Western Sydney Warriors a few days after taking on the Red Devils to official open their new stadium.
While some remain sceptical, a number of Leeds fans are thrilled with the news, with one saying that he “can’t wait”.
COMMENTARY:
Leeds need to start acting like a Premier League club if they want to be one and while they could be in the top-flight by next summer, it is still worth having these kinds of plans in place because it could be a masterstroke by Andrea Radrizzani whether the club is promoted or not. Most Leeds fans seem excited by it and why wouldn’t they be? Some of them have an excuse to take a once in a lifetime trip to Australia next summer to watch their team play against their biggest rivals. Imagine if the Whites win – those fans will have some story to tell their grandchildren in the future. Away from what the fans want, it’s also a good commercial opportunity for the club and Radrizzani has done well to get it sorted. If Leeds played someone other than United, not many fans would be bothered here in the UK, but because of this game there will be people tuning in and watching it in the northern and southern hemispheres.

Hopefully not true. Might be good for Australian fans but clubs going to them far places are usually knackered come the start of season. If we go up we will need a good start
