A section of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to gush over West Brom ace Harvey Barnes after the in-form attacker blew the Whites defence to bits at The Hawthorns on Saturday night.

Barnes, 20, is currently on loan at the Baggies from Leicester and he scored his sixth goal of the season in the 4-1 win against Leeds this weekend.

What has especially annoyed the United supporters is that according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay, the Yorkshire giants almost signed Barnes in the summer of 2018, but were beaten to him by West Brom.

Still, some Leeds fans were full of praise for Barnes despite seeing their team torn apart by him, with one saying he is the “best player in the league”.

COMMENTARY:

There are no two ways about it, Leeds would be top of the league and have clear daylight between themselves and the chasing pack if they had signed Barnes before West Brom in the summer. Maybe it was the fact that The Hawthorns is closer to home for Barnes – although Leeds is closer to his birthplace of Burnley – or maybe it was the fact that Albion were among the frontrunners for promotion before the season. Either way, Leeds missed a trick when they failed to sign him from Leicester and you can tell by the reaction of some Whites fans that they are gutted that he did not head to Elland Road. What must hurt even more is that Jack Harrison, who was signed after the Barnes deal collapsed, has been pretty underwhelming while on loan from Manchester City. It’s good to see Leeds fans being such good sports after losing to the Baggies though and you can tell that they really appreciate a quality young player when they see one.
