Tottenham have been hit with a huge fitness blow ahead of the north London derby on Sunday, according to Matt Barlow of the Daily Mail.

He claims that Erik Lamela, who started in the 1-0 win against Inter Milan in the Champions League, has been ruled out of the clash against Arsenal with a thigh injury.

Barlow made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Friday lunchtime.

Lamela has been in top form for Tottenham this season although he didn’t have his best game on Wednesday against Inter Milan. In the end he was taken off after 70 minutes and Christian Eriksen came on and scored the winning goal, so that worked out okay. And it means that Eriksen should start on Sunday as long as his fitness is up to it. This is a blow though. There’s been no mention of how severe the injury is but Tottenham don’t need to lose any more players. They’ve suffered the most of all the Premier League teams that had players back from the World Cup. And they’re still without Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele, with Pochettino carefully monitoring Eriksen. This doesn’t tip the balance back in favour of Arsenal, but it will give them hope that they can get something out of the game on Sunday. Emery’s side have been quietly going about their business this season and have only lost to Chelsea and Man City way back in August. Sunday’s game could be a classic.
