OPINION
Sweden won promotion from their Nations League group on Tuesday night, beating Russia 2-0, and fans were hailing an unlikely scorer of the first goal – Man United’s Victor Lindelof. It was his first goal in 28 caps for his country and he hasn’t yet got on the mark for Man United in 43 appearances for his club. It led to one fan saying that he has been brilliant for Man United too this season, but berated the fact that he had to “pair up with Chris Smalling”. Other fans were even more effusive over Lindelof, saying that he was the best centre-back in the world – a far cry from the comments that he was picking up at the start of his United career. Sweden kept a clean sheet last night, aided by Lindelof, but that’s been lacking from United this season. The normally tight Jose Mourinho side have only kept one clean sheet in the Premier League this season and they’ve let in 21 goals – more than anyone above them. In fact only four teams in the Premier League this season have let in more goals than them. Judging from the comments about Lindelof last night, the fans don’t think he’s to blame.
Here are the best reactions to Lindelof’s display against Russia on Tuesday night – a performance that even picked up a message from Sweden legend Zlatan Ibrahmiovic:
I told you its easy!

If Lindelof could just continue his form for Sweden for United that'd be great. He's been much better in recent weeks but I don't suppose playing alongside Smalling helps. #mufc #Lindelof

Lindelof with a solid 10/10 today. What a centre back he’s become, unreal.
Lucky you @ManUtd. #SWERUS #MUFC
