TalkSPORT host Jason Cundy has taken a huge swipe at West Ham over reports that the London club is trying to sign free agent Samir Nasri.

The Evening Standard has reported that the 31-year-old ex-Man City playmaker is due to sign an £80,000-a-week deal with the Hammers, even though he will not be available to play until the start of January.

Former Tottenham and Chelsea defender Cundy cannot believe that West Ham would go out and offer Nasri that kind of money, especially when they are currently under-paying young star Declan Rice.

“People say he’s only on £3,000-a-week. I don’t think West Ham can afford to allow this young man even to consider that he leaves,” said Cundy about Rice, as quoted on the TalkSPORT website.

“And when you see Samir Nasri come in, and you’ll be thinking to yourself – and other players will be thinking: ‘What has he done to deserve this right now?’

“This is a player who can’t even play, this is a player who can’t impact on our season.

“It just sums up West Ham, everything they do is cringey, it’s embarrassing.

“They seem to want to do things in the cheapest possible way.”

OPINION

Cundy has hit the nail on the head here, why on earth are West Ham trying to sign Nasri? They spent so much money in the summer transfer window and yes, Manuel Pellegirni’s side has been hit with injury problems lately, but the Frenchman is so far past it that signing him – let alone offering him so much money – is laughable. Pellegrini may know Nasri well from their time together at the Etihad, but that doesn’t mean that he would be a good signing. Nasri was at Antalyaspor in Turkey when he was hit with his current drugs ban and most Hammers fans probably haven’t even heard of that club. If he was any good he would have still been playing football for a top club but he was wasting away at one of Turkey’s less-reputable clubs and has not kicked a ball in a year. Signing him would be absolutely criminal and Rice should quit if that happens.
