It has been confirmed that Everton left-back Antonee Robinson will be ruled out until the start of February 2019 after undergoing an operation on his ankle.

Robinson, 21, is currently on loan at Wigan but will not be able to play for the Championship club for the next 10 weeks after going under the knife.

Wigan boss Paul Cook has confirmed the major injury blow for the six-times USA international, who joined the Latics on a season-long loan in the summer transfer window.

“Jedi (Antonee Robinson) had an operation and will be out for around 10 weeks but I was very happy with how Kal Naismith filled in for him on Saturday,” Cook said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

OPINION

Robinson has been crucial for Wigan in the Championship this season and they are definitely going to miss the Everton left-back as long as he is injured. Hopefully he can return sooner than February so that Cook does not replace him in the January, as he Toffees will want the 21-year-old to make the most of his loan spell away from Goodison Park so that he can return to Merseyside a much better play than he left. Robinson won’t be able to improve while he is injured so this is just as big a blow for Everton as it is Wigan. Robinson still has plenty of time left on his contract at Everton so he still has a chance to try and break into the first team at Goodison but if the worst comes to worst, the Toffees will be able to cash in on him if he fails to make the grade.
