Former England international Chris Sutton has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur frontman Harry Kane after his performance against Croatia on Sunday.

The Spurs star was superb, leading the Three Lions to victory with a goal and an assist that saw Gareth Southgate’s side finish top of their Nations League group.

And Sutton was thrilled with the England captain: “You’ve got to love the Nations League and Harry Kane,” he said on his personal Twitter account.

The goal ended a relatively barren run for England for Kane, and the Three Lions will go onto the Nations League semi-finals in Portugal next summer as a result of his endeavours on Sunday.

OPINION

Sutton is absolutely bang on, here. Everybody has to love Kane for what he does on a regular basis for club and country – except Arsenal fans, and even they surely appreciate his efforts for England. He was the difference against Croatia as he put aside a quiet first half performance to deliver when it counted for Southgate’s team. Sunday’s game was another reminder of his importance to this England side, but also evidence of the fantastic progress the team are making under Southgate. Croatia played the Three Lions off the park for much of their World Cup semi-final in Russia this summer, but England were in complete control from start to finish on Sunday – it was a joy to watch. Kane is the undisputed leader of this England team, and Tottenham fans should feel very lucky that they get to watch him week in week out. As Sutton says, you have to love him.
