A section of Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to annihilate Alvaro Morata for his performance in the 0-0 draw against Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Morata, 26, may have scored four goals in his last four Premier League outings, but his display in front of goal this weekend was frustrating to say the least and when he did get the ball in the back of Jordan Pickford’s net, it was correctly ruled out offside.

Some Chelsea fans were furious with the Spain international on social media, with one even saying that the club should “cancel his contract”.

COMMENTARY:

Morata is a bit of a scapegoat among some Chelsea fans anyway, but their criticism of the Spaniard was more than justified this weekend after a horrific performance in front of goal against Everton. The former Real Madrid and Juventus forward was constantly offside, which is about the most frustrating thing that a striker should do. While Morata has been scoring goals lately, Maurizio Sarri must be looking towards January and potentially finding someone who can be his starting striker every week. Morata does not perform well on a regular basis, Olivier Giroud is better off the bench and the Blues will never win the Premier League title without someone having quality like Didier Drogba or Diego Costa in front of goal. Everton did do a decent job at keeping Chelsea at bay this weekend but at the end of the day, if the Londoners want to win the title again, they must be seeing off teams like the Toffees.
