Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has waxed lyrical over Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish but has admitted he is “astounded” at the player’s poor goals return.

He says that the 5ft 9in [Transfermarkt] dazzler was “disappointed” that a move to Tottenham did not happen in the summer, but Prutton adds that he is a player who has incredible technical ability and creativity.

However he admits that Grealish can frustrate him at times, especially with his goal return – he only has three goals to his name so far in the league.

“Grealish was a little disappointed [that the move didn’t happen] and I’ve had this discussion with a lot of people,” Prutton told the Express.

“When Grealish is at his best, he’s a technically gifted footballer who is capable of real ingenuity and creativity. But, the fact he’s only scored three Championship goals, astounds me.

“You’re talking about a player like this with a goal return like that.”

OPINION

Grealish would have no doubt felt aggrieved that his move to Tottenham did not go through – and who could blame him? He had the chance to better himself amongst some of the world’s most talented players, and he was denied that chance by Aston Villa. Yes, as Prutton points out, he is a gifted footballer with a lot of creativity. But where are his goals this season? They are hardly nowhere to be seen, and it is safe to say that three goals is an absolutely woeful return for a player of Grealish’s talent. We all know that he is capable of much more, it is just a question of whether he wants to bring that to the table. Some may have questioned his loyalty towards Villa after the move to Spurs fell through, but that is not entirely surprising. The club have gone through a torrid time of late, and the fans are only right to ask about players who are clearly not giving 100 per cent.
