OPINION

A lot of very interesting information is coming out from the Leeds camp at the moment.

Leeds fans wanted a new centre-back in the summer and it looks like Leeds did as well, with Victor Orta looking closely at Brighton centre-back Ben White.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claims that the club decided to drop their bid in respect to manager Marcelo Bielsa’s claim that another signing would be unnecessary.

However, things have changed and while Bielsa is still publicly saying that he doesn’t need any more players, he’s starting to resemble King Canute as a tide of injured players start to wash in against him.

Gaetano Berardi is out until February and Pontus Jansson is due for a scan today to assess the extent of his injury that he picked up in the 4-1 defeat to West Brom.

If Orta thought Leeds wanted a centre-back in the summer he will definitely want one now and Bielsa has already said he is prepared to u-turn on his views and strengthen if the club deems it necessary.

That could open the door again for Ben White, a hugely promising 21-year-old centre-back at Brighton who hasn’t broken into the first-team after spending last season on loan at Newport.

And if Leeds can land him at the second attempt, fans will roar as they finally get their wish. Maybe five months later than they wanted.
