A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to voice their delight at the performance of goalkeeper Orjan Nyland in their clash away to Derby County on Saturday.

The Villans, coming into the clash off the back of a 2-0 win over Bolton last weekend, kept the home side at bay in the first 45 minutes as they went into half time at 0-0, and scored three half time goals to secure an impressive away win.

The Villa faithful were in left in ecstasy over the performance of 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt) goalkeeper Nyland as he pulled off a number of impressive stops to stop Derby from netting, and turned to social media to celebrate what they saw.

COMMENTARY

Nyland has come under fire for his performances between the sticks this season – as alluded to by one of the supporters on Twitter who was questioning where his haters were this week – but this sort of display ought to win him a couple more backers. He was confident from the off in his penalty box and as he made save after save it was clear that his belief was growing. That is so important for a goalkeeper and so will the backing of the supporters, whether that is in the stands or on social media. With new manager Dean Smith in charge, it was always important that he made a good first impression and while things might have been shaky earlier on, this sort of performance only helps to cement his place as a secure number one choice between the sticks. A new goalkeeper might have been thought about in January but this should end those concerns.
