A section of Celtic fans on Twitter want Mikael Lustig gone in 2019 when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Lustig, 31, has told Swedish newspaper Expressen in a recent interview that he expects to extend his stay at Parkhead for another year, even though he has been widely criticised for his performances in the last couple of years.
And while the Sweden international is hopeful of earning a new deal, some Celtic fans do not want him to be offered fresh terms so that he can leave the club next year.
COMMENTARY:
It is probably a topic that will divide Celtic fans for the rest of the season but this bunch of supporters here are firmly in the belief that the Swedish mainstay should be allowed to leave next year. Lustig has not been great for the Hoops on the whole during Brendan Rodgers’ time at the club, however the Northern Irish boss has constantly started him over the likes of Cristian Gamboa and Anthony Ralston. Rodgers is unlikely to take the opinion of supporters into consideration and you can widely expect him to offer Lustig a new deal, something which will likely frustrate the supporters below. It’s not the end of the world but it will be frustrating because it shows that Rodgers isn’t going to be taking this club forward in the next 12 months, especially by keeping hold of players like Lustig. As seen in the Europa League this term, he is awful against top sides. He can cope with most Scottish Premiership clubs but in Europe he is out of his depth. An upgrade is needed.

People saying he's cover…..cover for what? Every team singles him out as our weaklink….europe down to the lowest in the SPFL. Izzy can actually cover, so it's a poor comparison. Love the guy, but you've gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em!
