Gareth Barry and Boaz Myhill have been dropped to West Brom’s Under-23s squad for their Checkatrade Trophy clash against Macclesfield at the Moss Rose on Tuesday night.
The Silkmen confirmed the team news via their official Twitter account ahead of kick-off in Cheshire as West Brom’s reserves prepare for a game that if they win, they will qualify for the knock-out stages of the competition.

Both Barry and Myhill were in Albion’s matchday squad on Saturday when they beat Leeds United 4-1, however they were both unused substitutes on that occasion.
OPINION
Darren Moore has clearly seen this game as a chance for Barry and Myhill to get a bit of match fitness and given the fact that senior players can play in the Checkatrade Trophy, it makes sense to do this. It is also a very good experience for some of Albion’s younger stars to play alongside someone as experienced in the game as Barry, who is the all-time record appearance holder in the Premier League. The former Aston Villa midfielder has come a long way since February’s debacle in Barcelona and is very much considered as one of the key components in West Brom’s midfield. He has been injured lately though so this game against Macclesfield gives him a good opportunity to get back on track but once the international break is over, it will be hard to see how he will get into Moore’s starting line-up after James Morrison rolled back the years with a classy display in the win against Leeds.
