Arsenal are preparing to sell first-team midfielder Mohamed Elneny in the January transfer window, according to The Sun.

The newspaper report that the Gunners are hoping to cash in to the tune of £15million for the Egypt international, with Unai Emery having not used him at all in the Premier League this season.

The Sun claim that Premier League rivals Leicester could be ready to snap Elneny up, while the Gunners will look to use the potential cash in a swoop for Villareal midfielder Pablo Fornals.

Good move for Arsenal?

It seems a bit harsh for Elneny to be offloaded just a few months after penning a new contract until 2022 with the club, but Emery is obviously not a big fan of the midfielder.

Elneny has made just four appearances in all competitions this term, with all of those coming in the Europa League and the EFL Cup, which you can bet on with Ladbrokes, illustrating just how out of favour he is.

Maybe an exit is best for all parties, with Elneny heading to a club where he can play more football, while Arsenal get cash they can spend on a player who will improve their squad.

Likely to happen?

It does look like this is a move which could happen in the January window.

Elneny is clearly not set to play any more football than he already is at the Emirates, and Arsenal are lining up moves for other players.

It is an exit which makes sense for all parties, and that is the key here.
