A section of Tottenham fans have delivered mixed verdicts on Twitter after Daniel Levy opened up for the first time on why the club didn’t sign any players over the summer.
At a meeting with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust last Tuesday, the Spurs chairman and board were quizzed on the lack of transfer activity and whether there would be funds for January transfers.
In the minutes of that meeting, which have now been released on the Trust’s website , Levy’s answers are detailed.
“Daniel Levy explained that the club had based the summer window on certain assumptions that some players might be leaving and certain targets would be available,” read the minutes.
“Mauricio Pochettino didn’t want to sign someone for the sake of it. He felt there were sufficient players in the squad, and that those coming back from injury would be like new signings.”
Levy’s comments are accepted by some supporters, while others are less forgiving.

COMMENTARY:
Levy says very little in public and you sense that, if he had his way, he would never comment at all. The chairman is low key but high profile, because of his power and reputation. It is fair to say his reputation for shrewdness and good judgement took a major hit among supporters following a fallow summer window in which, as he admits, the club felt a number of player would be sold to bring in cash for replacements, but those deals didn’t happen as expected. It made Spurs record-breakers as they became the first club since the creation of the Premier League not to buy a single player in the main summer window and led to immense criticism of Levy and how he operates. Some of that ill feeling has not gone away, with some calling for his head in the wake of his explanation, while others recognise that some things happen that are entirely out of the chairman’s control.

You know what? I'm perfectly alright with Levy's statements. He's a good chairman. Loves his club. I do wish we could have all known this information earlier. Maybe he wanted to wait until after all the commotion has settled. #coys

No surprise for me in those comments. Certainly not if you read Poch’s book, where he also states several times he doesn’t want to buy players for the sake of it…

Although he’s takes us far the fella is a business man and talks like one too. I’ll not say a bad word about hi as he’s got spurs best interests at heart, But if we are to compete at the highest level things need to change

Absolute joke. The man carries on like the club has no money. Yet charges the earth to watch the team and demands ridiculous amounts for players to leave so we end up not selling. He and ENIC have to go.
