West Brom manager Darren Moore and sporting director Luke Dowling have got underway with their plans for the upcoming transfer window but have a financial hurdle which could limit their chances, according to the Express and Star.

The newspaper claim on their website that the two senior men have got the ball rolling on sourcing new talent to help their push for a top six finish and a shot at a return to the Premier League, but after a summer of spending remain in their overdraft, limiting the amount of spending they will be able to carry out.

It is stated that the Baggies are keen on Blackburn’s Bradley Dack but that with an asking price of £20million, it is a non-starter at the moment.

Opinion

At present it does not look like the Baggies will need too many reinforcements when January comes around but it seems as though the likes of Moore and Dowling are getting their shortlists done early just in case they do have to dip their toes into the market. There is likely to be no big spending, instead picking and choosing their deals carefully to add some quality talent to the squad without bloating it too much, and the only way that there will be any sort of significant signings is if they sell a big name of their own – or lose loanees like Dwight Gayle or Harvey Barnes. Still, it could be that they are also planning for the summer, which could see two lists drawn up – one for if they remain in the Championship, and one for if they secure promotion back to the Premier League. Either way, it is good to know that Dowling, who has not been at the Hawthorns for too long, has got to work straight away and is working alongside Moore to deliver what they need.
