A section of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to destroy Aaron Cresswell for his performance in the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Cresswell, 28, was back in the starting line-up for just the second time in the Premier League this season due the poor form of Arthur Masuaku, but he failed to make the most of the opportunity.

Some Hammers fans were furious with the left-back, with one saying that the club should “release him” because of how bad he is playing.

OPINION

Cresswell has not done a lot to show Manuel Pellegrini why he should continue to start him in the league, but his performance does show that the Chilean has to try and sign a new left-back in the summer. Masuaku has not been great this season with the ex-Olympiakos much more of an attack-minded full-back. His defensive work is poor, but Cresswell is just poor all around and offers next to nothing in attack and defence. Pellegrini spent over £100million in January and may have to spend even more to get a top-quality left-back in. Even if it just a short-term fix like Leighton Baines from Everton, it will get the Hammers to the end of the season where they can go in for a younger, more exciting talent to fill the problem area. West Ham are close to having a very good squad, but they are just two or three players off from having an excellent one.
