A section of West Ham fans have been drooling over the prospect of signing Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama after the Kenya international was linked with a move to the London Stadium.
Football Insider reported on Monday that the Hammers want to sign Wanyama, 27, in the January transfer window and have added him to a shortlist of possible additions to their midfield options.
Some West Ham fans are loving the idea of luring the former Celtic and Southampton man away from their London rivals, with one saying that he would be an “excellent” addition.
COMMENTARY:
Wanyama would be a superb signing for West Ham and judging by the reaction of these fans on Twitter, they would be behind Manuel Pellegrini even if it meant getting a player from Tottenham. Wanyama has dropped down the pecking order in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad lately with just five appearances across all competitions this season. He has had his injury problems in the last year or so but the Hammers need a combative, physical player in their midfield in a bid to improve their defensive record. Wanyama has all those qualities plus bags of Premier League and international experience. These Hammers fans can see that but they are also wary that Tottenham might not want to do business with them because of their rivalry, and they may have a point. However if Spurs chairman Daniel Levy receives a decent offer, he is bound to put the club’s financial needs first.
