A section of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to destroy Tyrone Mears for his performance in the 1-0 defeat against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Mears, 35, once again started as the right-sided wing-back as Matt Phillips remained out of action due to an injury he picked up last month.
However Albion fans were highly critical of the experienced full-back, with one even saying that he “isn’t fit to play Sunday league football”.

Rather have any three of those young lads in the team with the risk of playing poorly than have Mears who in an ideal world leaves in January. Honestly mate I’m not in meltdown like some and the abuse banded about is idiotic, but our shortcomings are glaring and need addressing.

Very poor today, to be fair to brunt he ain't a a central midfield player and he's there cos of bad planning during the transfer window. Mears is passed it but he shouldn't have been signed in the first place. Hrk isn't good enough. Centre half's are poor. On to the next game.

The fact Moore left Mears on for 70 mins tells you everything Just what was our game plan today??? Moore is the new Mike Bassett ‘just go on and run around a bit’. Clueless coaching, watch him on the sideline. It’s the occasional Barnes or Gayle brilliance that saves him.#WBA

Big dave……. learn from it. Still 3rd, not the end of the world. Mears and our defence just aren’t good enough #wba

OPINION
Darren Moore made a big mistake in the summer when he let Allan Nyom leave The Hawthorns without a replacement lined up. Albion reportedly tried to sign James Tavernier and Luke Ayling as replacements, but ended up going for free agent Mears, who had spent years wasting away in the MLS as he approached the end of his career. It was a baffling signing to make and one that Moore should not have made. Hopefully now that Luke Dowling is on board the Baggies won’t be making such rash decisions in the transfer market. Nyom was poor but should only have gone with a replacement right-back lined up. Mears is not good enough and he was a panic buy, even though he was free. Hopefully Phillips is back to fitness for the Derby game on Wednesday because these Albion fans will be tearing their hair out if they have to see the one-time Jamaica international once again.
