A number of West Bromwich Albion supporters have been reacting with disdain to midfielder Chris Brunt’s performance against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
The Baggies were beaten for the first time in eight games as Josh Windass’s strike earned the hosts a 1-0 win at the DW Stadium.
West Brom stalwart Brunt came in for plenty of criticism following the game, with many fans asserting that he doesn’t deserve a place in the team anymore.

Get rid .. we need pace in team not sentiment

For the sake of Brunt & the good of the team he needs to be left out. The spine of every side is important & him in the middle of ours (DM to blame) is the weak link. Games bypass him. No tackle & passing is way off. At times hiding from the ball. Very sad to see #wba

Moore you are clueless #wba why does he persist with Brunt each week and Field can’t get a look in ! Dreadful performance yet again.

STOP PLAYING BRUNT IN THE MIDDLE

Another typical Brunt performance but guess he is allowed these as he's a great stalwart to the club. Given the ball away regularly today and any pace in attack is always slowed down by him #wba

#wba I simply don’t get the perseverance with mears and Brunt. It simply does not work. Gayle and HB Save inadequacy time and time again.

Dreadful first half. Who’d have thought that a team containing Tyrone Mears and Chris Brunt would be short of pace. Exactly the same as Reading sadly. Let’s hope the second half is similar too #wba

OPINION
This is becoming a regular occurrence whenever Brunt has a bad game for West Brom. His status as a club legend doesn’t appear to have given him immunity from criticism, and Saturday’s defeat to Wigan was no exception. To be fair, you can see where the Baggies fans are coming from here. Brunt, like many of his team mates, simply wasn’t good enough against Paul Cook’s side and the team suffered as a result. The 33-year-old’s age is catching up to him and the Northern Irishman isn’t the player he used to be. He tried to make things happen but was too sloppy in possession and constantly ran into trouble. It’s been a sad decline for a fine servant of Darren Moore’s side, and there doesn’t seem to be much he can do to reverse his ailing fortunes. Perhaps a rest from the starting line up would do Brunt good, but with Jake Livermore seeing red late on that probably won’t be the case in the immediate future.
