Tottenham are reportedly in pole position to sign Ajax playmaker Donny van de Beek – and Daniel Levy could play an absolute blinder if he was to fund a move for the Netherlands international.

According to Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato, Spurs are leading the race for the 21-year-old midfielder, who is also on the radars of Barcelona, Chelsea and Roma.

Van de Beek has been in impressive form for Ajax this season, appearing in all 19 of their games across all competitions and helping them top their Champions League group which contains Bayern Munich and Benfica.

Ajax have lost just once all season and look like solid bets to win the Eredivise title this season, and a lot of that is down to how well van de Beek has been controlling their midfield.

The five-times Dutch international seemingly has limitless potential and he would slot perfectly into Mauricio Pochettino’s first team as it faces a potential facelift next summer when key players like Mousa Dembele could leave.

Van de Beek already has Champions League experience and 100 senior appearances to his name despite being just 21-years-old and it’s not like Tottenham would be prying him from the unknown if they signed him.

Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez were all developed by the world-class academy in Amsterdam and van de Beek could be the next one to jet into London and make a major impact in N17.

Spurs chairman Levy simply must make this happen because van de Beek is one of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe and could be a star of the global game once he hits his peak.
