Tottenham might not have made a single over the summer transfer window but it does not seem that it was for a lack of trying, with plenty of names speculated about before the market shut and Mauricio Pochettino was left without any new recruits.

One such player who seemed to be firmly on Tottenham’s radar was Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, with the Telegraph claiming that the Red Devils would look to turn away the Lilywhites as they chased his capture, having been a long-time target for the north London outfit.

The French flyer has remained at Old Trafford and been used on occasion by manager Jose Mourinho, but despite having played his part so far it seems he future lies elsewhere.

The Mirror state that the 22-year-old wants to secure an exit from the club come the summer of 2019, when his current contract is set to expire, although he is not set to leave on a free with United able to activate a year’s extension clause.

With no future at Mourinho’s side past the end of the current campaign, all that remains to be seen is where his next destination might well be, and he would be the perfect signing for Spurs boss Pochettino either in January or the summer.

What Tottenham have lacked for so long is a man to compete with Harry Kane as a striker, and while Martial has tended to be utilised as a winger – which some might argue Spurs do not need another of – he would be serious competition for the England forward.

His versatility, which the likes of Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente – the last two strikers brought in to support Kane – lack so very much, is exactly what Pochettino will be looking for, and he is arguably an upgrade on the likes of Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura – not to mention possessing much more potential at the age of 22.

He ticks a lot of, if not all, the boxes for the Spurs boss, and with no future at Old Trafford, it could be Tottenham’s new stadium where he continues his career.
