A number of Tottenham supporters have turned to social media to revel in the news that Serge Aurier is a surprise injury boost as he prepares to play for the Ivory Coast over the international break.

The right back has been missing from Tottenham’s last three games with what is said to be a thigh injury, leaving Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters to battle it out for a place in the first team.

However, as stated by journalist Alasdair Gold, the 25-year-old was chosen to speak to the media ahead of his country’s clash with the Central African Republic during the international gap, signalling he is set to feature in what is a surprise update for Spurs.

The Lilywhite faithful were left delighted at the news on Twitter, although one fan was left bemoaning how they only found out he was okay due to his commitments with his country, calling the situation “Spursy”.

This is Futbol has gathered a selection of the supporters’ tweets:

Opinion

With injuries having plagued Tottenham this season, they needed some sort of boost to brighten the spirits, and judging by the reaction of the fans Aurier’s return to action seems to have had the desired effect. He might have been something of a loose cannon last season but he has improved dramatically in his few performances during the current campaign, and while Kieran Trippier was firmly first choice, things are not so simple any more. His attacking threat down the flanks is a real asset to Mauricio Pochettino and with the club having looked a little lost without the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen up front, they could well do with a spark to ignite their forward line. While relying on a defender to offer that up might seem counterproductive, Aurier has the ability to change a game with his talents and bring an electricity to the side that others struggle to produce.
