Former Celtic and England striker Chris Sutton has heralded the impact that Tom Rogic had in the Hoops’ 6-0 demolition of St Johnstone on Sunday despite not getting on the score sheet.

The Bhoys were 5-0 up at half time courtesy of a four goal blitz from winger James Forrest, while striker Odsonne Edouard also managed to find the back of the net, and Callum McGregor put the icing on the cake in the second half with a late effort.

However, while admitting Forrest had to be man of the match, Sutton picked out Rogic as someone for high praise, insisting his display was important to victory.

Speaking on BT Sport, he said: “It was vitally important that they won the game, the performanc ejust as important – emphatic.

“Tom Rogic had a very, very big game for Celtic, second half, down to 10 men, St Johnstone were dogged. (It was) really important for Celtic to tell the rest of the teams in the league ‘we’re here and we are coming for you'”.

Opinion

There was hardly a bad performance to be seen by a man in green and white on Sunday, and it was probably one of the best displays the Hoops have shown all season. They were confident on the ball, constantly finding gaps with their interplay, and out of possession they put the home side under immense pressure to ensure they won the ball back as soon as possible. Forrest was without a doubt the outstanding star but as Sutton says, Rogic’s performance was nearly as important. He ran the show from midfield and was a great creator of opportunities throughout the 90 minutes, showing his vision technique and creativity to keep finding the right pass which put St Johnstone to the sword. If Celtic can gel like this every week, then they are going to win the title once again. However, this sort of display was a rarity so far, and that needs to change.
