Dwight Yorke has applied for the manager’s job at Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster has reported via their live transfer blog on Friday [12:42pm] that Yorke, 46, has handed in his CV to the Villa Park chiefs for a second time after he was originally rejected before Steve Bruce was hired two years ago.

Bruce was sacked on Wednesday after the 3-3 draw with Preston and rookie coach Yorke, who has never managed a team, has wasted no time in making it clear he wants to replace the ex-Birmingham man at Villa Park.

It is understood that chief executive Christian Purslow is leading the hunt for Bruce’s successor.

Good move for Aston Villa?

You get the feeling that the Villains will go for a left-field hire to replace Bruce, but hiring Yorke wouldn’t be left-field, it would be madness.

The 46-year-old has never managed anyone and his only real senior role came between 2009 and 2010 when he was the assistant manager for the Trinidad and Tobago national team.

At least with someone like Thierry Henry he will have the reputation to be able to attract top players to Villa Park and he has more recently been assistant manager of Belgium at the World Cup.

If Yorke wants to get into club management then he needs to start lower down because his CV can’t be anywhere near good enough to manage in the Championship.

Likely to happen?

Villa have rejected Yorke before, and they will likely do it again because it is quite clear that he doesn’t have the reputation or the skills to be the next manager.

The former Aston Villa, Manchester United and Blackburn forward was a very good player in his day, but that was a long time ago now and he still doesn’t have the draw as someone like Henry.
