Kilmarnock has confirmed that they have appealed the two-match ban slapped down on Greg Stewart leaving him free to star in the club’s clash against Rangers on Wednesday night.

The 28-year-old, who has been in brilliant form for the side currently sitting second in the Scottish Premiership table, was handed a suspension after their game with Hamilton after an incident involving the hitman and Scott Martin, thus appearing to rule him out of the clash against the Light Blues.

However, as quoted by the Daily Record, the club have confirmed their intentions to appeal the decision, with a hearing set for Thursday 1 November, and as a result of no decision having yet been made, Stewart, who has three goals and four assists in seven appearances, is free to star against the Gers at Ibrox.

The official statement said: “The club intends to challenge the Fast Track Notice of Complaint issued to Greg Stewart following our match with Hamilton Academical.

“A hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, November 1 where a determination on an alleged breach of Disciplinary Rule 200 shall be made. Until an outcome is reached, Greg remains available for selection including for tonight’s Ladbrokes Premiership match againstĀ RangersĀ at Ibrox.”

Opinion

This is not good news for Rangers, who would have been left feeling supremely confident over picking up a victory against Kilmarnock without Stewart. He has been in such fine form this season, scoring or assisting at a rate of over a goal a game, and he is going to be a real thorn in the sides of the Light Blues defence when Killy turn up to Ibrox. The question that has to be asked is whether Steven Gerrard has been preparing his men with the thinking that Stewart would be missing and therefore approaching the game in a different way in terms of tactics. If he has, then it will be a case of reverting his changes and sending his team out with a new method to try and nullify the hitman. Rangers should have enough quality at their disposal to keep the visitors quiet, but perhaps Killy’s tactics were to throw them off with this late revelation, which could well put Gerrard’s plans up in the air. It promises to be an exciting game now that Stewart is free to star – but who will come out victorious?
