As the second highest scorers in the entire Scottish top flight, there would be few out there who would argue that Rangers’ attacking options needed improving.

Alfredo Morelos has not suffered second-season syndrome at Ibrox this campaign, with 11 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions already, while Kyle Lafferty has chipped in with four more in his nine outings.

However, one man who joined the Northern Irish forward in making a move to Glasgow this summer was Roma loanee Umar Sadiq, but it is fair to say he has not lived up to expectation with just three sightings, all of which have come as a substitute.

As such, manager Steven Gerrard could do with a third, top quality striker to boost their chances of toppling Celtic at the top of the table, and by binning Sadiq, they have a gap for another loan forward to fill the void.

The former Liverpool man should be looking back at Anfield for his top target in the form of 21-year-old Dominic Solanke, who has found game time impossible to come by under Jurgen Klopp.

Gerrard will not only be familiar with him thanks to his links back to Merseyside, but because he has been spotted watching the striker in person, the Daily Record snapping a picture of the Ibrox boss taking in the under-21 clash between England and Scotland on Tuesday – a match which also featured a number of Rangers talents.

Solanke, with his Premier League experience, is likely going to be hot property in January as clubs plot a loan move for the out-of-favour hitman, but at Rangers he has a manager he knows and teammates, in the shape of Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent, that he has played alongside.

There is no doubt Solanke would be an upgrade on Sadiq at Ibrox, and it could be a masterstroke of a swoop to snap him up on a temporary deal and bring a new, dangerous element to an already potent forward line at Rangers.
