Former Celtic star and current BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton was left almost speechless after watching James Forrest net four goals in the first half of the clash with St Johnstone on Sunday afternoon.

The Bhoys blew their hosts away on their return to domestic football, with the 27-year-old winger netting their opener as well as their third, fourth and fifth strike in the opening 45 minutes, Odsonne Edouard netting the other to give them a 5-0 lead.

Speaking of the Scottish international after his fourth effort, Sutton had just one word for his performance.

He said on BT Sport’s coverage of the clash (07/10): “Wow. Wow, wow, wow.”

After Forrest’s third, he had said: “Simply outstanding, credit Forrest, full of confidence, (he has been the) best player on the pitch.”

Opinion

‘Wow’ indeed, Chris. There will be very few fans at Celtic Park who have seen a performance quite like this one, and the travelling support from Glasgow would have been absolutely delighted with what they saw – much like Sutton. Forrest was on top of his game and flourished thanks to everyone in the white and green away kit being as impressive as they have looked all season. Yes, St Johnstone might have looked all at sea when it came to defending but it still takes plenty of talent and effort to get the ball into the back of the net and Forrest made it look as simple as anything on Sunday. His movement was something else and the home side simply could not handle him. He was hungry to keep St Johnstone under as much pressure as possible regardless of whether he had the ball or not, and his energy levels were outstanding.
