A number of Celtic supporters have turned to social media to drool over the first half display of James Forrest after he played a starring role in the clash with St Johnstone on Sunday.

The 27-year-old stole the limelight in the opening 45 minutes, netting the opening goal after 15 minutes after finding himself in the right place at the right time in the penalty box, before netting his second on the half hour mark to sandwich Odsonne Edouard’s strike.

The Scottish international completed his hat trick after 38 minutes with a break through run which sliced the home side’s defence open before sliding the ball past the goalkeeper, and the Celtic supporters were absolutely ecstatic on Twitter as he eventually finished with four goals.

This is Futbol has gathered a selection of the supporters’ tweets:

Opinion

This was one of the most clinical performances that Celtic have put in all season and it was Forrest who capitalised on their potency up top. He was absolutely outstanding with both his finishing and movement to get the ball into the back of the net but at the same time he was also a creative force setting up his teammates for opportunities of their own. He was a cut above everyone else and constantly wanted to put the home side to the sword in what will be a performance which catapults his confidence into the stratosphere. After what has been a disappointing couple of weeks this was the performance Celtic needed and a lot of it came from what Forrest had to offer. It is a shame that fans do not see the winger at his brutal best week in, week out, for if he was this brilliant every week then Celtic would storm home to the title.
