Scott Bain wants to be Celtic number one and is ready to take his spot in the starting line-up against former side Dundee on Wednesday night.

Bain has been limited to cup games this season, with Craig Gordon the established number one at Parkhead.

He’s happy for any chances that he’s given by Brendan Rodgers but he also wants to push for more.

He impressed again in the 3-0 cup win against Hearts at the weekend and will be hoping he keeps his place in the final against Aberdeen.

Talking in the Scottish Sun Bain said, “The manager believes in me to give me these opportunities to play in the cup.

“I just enjoy it when I get the chance to play. I got the nod at the weekend, but we’ll see what happens.

“I’ve only lost once at Celtic — Aberdeen in the last game of the season — and it still hurts.”

OPINION

It was a falling out with sacked Dundee boss Neil McCann that ended up with Bain making the move to Celtic. He went on loan to Hibs first, before switching to Celtic in January and making a dream debut in the 3-2 win against Rangers at Ibrox last season. That won him a permanent move and a cap for Scotland, and since then he’s made a total of 10 appearances for Brendan Rodgers. He might have a long wait if he wants to depose Craig Gordon as Celtic number one though. Gordon is well established and the Scotland international never does much wrong. The cup games give Bain the chance to shine and he will relish the final against Aberdeen if Rodgers keeps faith in him. He started his career at Aberdeen but didn’t make a senior appearance for them before being released in 2011. Lifting the Scottish Cup against them eight years later would be something of a dream come true for Bain.
