Some football fans on Twitter destroyed Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon for his performance for Scotland during the 3-1 defeat to Portugal on Sunday.

The 35-year-old shot-stopper played the full 90 minutes during his nation’s friendly with Portugal and quickly had supporters of a variety of clubs criticising his performance.

One Hoops fan even tweeted that fellow Celtic shot-stopper Scott Bain should be in the Scotland squad ahead of Gordon while another supporter amusingly claimed that Gordon had the coordination of famous comedian Miranda Hart.

OPINION

While it’s never nice to read tweets that tear a player apart for this performance, a lot of these fans have done it in an amusing fashion. It’s interesting that aside from some Rangers fans jumping at the opportunity to criticise a Celtic player there is at least one Hoops fan unimpressed with Gordon’s international display. Several supporters opted to question Gordon’s ability as soon as he let in a goal but there wasn’t much he could do stop Wolves’ Helder Costa scoring on his debut for Portugal to open the scoring. However the goalie soon earned his criticism by completely losing the plot in the second-half. The 35-year-old looked unable to make the simplest of saves and should have done more to stop Portugal extending their lead. After featuring in 18 games for the Hoops so far this season, after witnessing that display, Brendan Rodgers may be thinking whether he needs a better goalkeeper as Gordon looked clueless for his nation.
