Graham Roberts has slammed Tottenham’s inability to see off PSV Einhoven as Mauricio Pochettino’s side were held to a 2-2 draw at the Philips Stadion on Wednesday night.

The result means that Spurs’ hopes of reaching the Champions League knock-out rounds have taken a major blow as they are now five points behind second-placed Inter Milan with three games to play.

Roberts was not impressed by Spurs’ overall performance but he did rave about Christian Eriksen, who bagged an assist on his return to the starting line-up after a spell on the sidelines with an injury.

“Should have killed the game of last night very disappointing great to see Eriksen back and looking very sharp,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning.

OPINION

Eriksen is without doubt Tottenham’s most important player. If he was available for the previous Champions League fixture against Barcelona, Spurs may have not been so easily brushed aside by the Spanish giants and they could have got a draw or something. Now Spurs are left with a real fight on their hands to ensure they do not drop out of the Champions League at the first hurdle. Dropping into the Europa League won’t be the end of the world because that is certainly a winnable competition, but the North London club wants to be one of Europe’s best clubs and to be one of them you have to be reaching the quarter finals of the Champions League on a regular basis. Will Spurs reach the knock-out rounds this season? Probably not but they will have to have an almighty turn around against Barca and Inter Milan if they want to finish in the top two.
