A number of Rangers fans have taken to social media to call for the return of midfielder Greg Docherty after the 22-year-old netted for loan side Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.

The young talent was shipped out to the League One outfit in the summer on a season-long temporary deal and has impressed with the Shrews, his latest outing seeing him net after just two minutes in the 3-1 win at home to Barnsley.

With four goals and two assists in 13 appearances, his goal scoring exploits had the Rangers fans calling him to return to Ibrox and play his part in Steven Gerrard’s side.

This is FutbolĀ has gathered a selection of the supporters’ tweets:

Opinion

Docherty might be impressing down in England with Shrewsbury Town, but his performances are not enough to give these Rangers fans what they want – a return to Ibrox sooner rather than later. He has still got plenty of things to learn and he has to develop as a player before standing even the slightest of chances of breaking into Steven Gerrard’s squad. Look at the talent that stands in his way – Canada international Scott Arfield; Mali international Lassana Coulibaly; Scotland internationals Ryan Jack and Graham Dorrans. There is no guarantee that Docherty has a future at Ibrox with so much talent between him and the first team, and so the supporters might well find themselves disappointed when he does eventually return, which will no doubt be at the end of the season and not before (barring injury). League One is a drop down from the Scottish Premiership, and he has shown nothing to suggest he can make that step up.
