A number of Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters have expressed frustration at the performance of forward Diogo Jota against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side ran out 1-0 winners over the Eagles courtesy of Matt Doherty’s strike, but the 5ft 10in Jota [Source: Transfermarkt] once again failed to impress.

The Portuguese winger has struggled to replicate the stunning form he showcased in the Championship last season, and the Wolves faithful are beginning to lose patience.

OPINION

You can see where the Wolves fans are coming from here. Jota was one of the team’s best players last season and was key to their successful promotion winning campaign, but he’s not looked the same since making the step up to the Premier League. He’s still just 21 years of age so there’s time for him to improve and find his feet in the top flight but it’s been a worrying run of form for the Wolves winger. We’re eight games into the season now so Jota’s struggles cannot merely be discounted as a blip. He’s not been good enough and he’s surely hanging onto his starting spot by the skin of his teeth. Nuno has the likes of Adama Traore and Ivan Cavaleiro available on the bench so it’s not like the manager is having to keep Jota in due to a lack of alternatives. How much longer the Portuguese continues to keep his place in the team remains to be seen, but he needs to improve sharpish, that’s for sure.
