West Ham United winger Andriy Yarmolenko could miss the rest of the season after being ruled out for six months, according to Claret and Hugh.

The respected Hammers new source confirmed on Sunday that the injury suffered by the Ukrainian against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday was a serious one.

A club source told Claret and Hugh: “Andriy has ruptured his achilles and will undergo an operation next week. He will be out for six months.”

Yarmolenko went down untouched in the Spurs box and was in agony on the London Stadium pitch. This news is a massive blow for a player who had been finding his feet in recent weeks.

OPINION

What a huge blow this is for the Hammers. Yarmolenko has really come into his own of late, starting with his brace against Everton last month, and for him to suffer a serious setback like this is such a shame. For any player to be out for six months is a nightmare scenario, but particularly for someone who is just starting to make their mark on a new club like Yarmolenko. West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini will need other members of his squad to step up in the Ukraine international’s absence. Michail Antonio, Robert Snodgrass and youngster Grady Diangana will be looking to rise to the occasion with the 28-year-old facing a long spell on the sidelines. Pellegrini will be hugely disappointed, because his attacking trio of Yarmolenko, Marko Arnautovic and Felipe Anderson has looked increasingly impressive since the season began. Overall, a desperately disappointing day at the office against Spurs on Saturday for multiple reasons.
