West Ham will wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to extend the contract of giant striker Andy Carroll as he heads into the final couple of months of hsi current deal, according to reliable insider ExWHUemployee on The West Ham Way.

The reputable inside source on the Hammers claimed in the podcast (10/10, 38:20) that the hitman, who is on a contract worth £90,000-a-week (source: Spotrac) has a clause in his contract which allows the Hammers to extend the deal by a further two years, but are currently uncertain as to whether they should activate it.

The insider claims that the Hammers plan on leaving it until the end of the season to make a decision, with the hitman having missed all of the new campaign through injury, saying: “His contract does expire in the summer, but there is a two year option (to extend it). That is something the club will decide whether they are going to do. They are apparently giving it until the end of the season to make that decision.”

Opinion

This is the sort of news that will divide opinion at the London Stadium, with some believing Carroll’s time at the club should be coming to an end, while others think he has the game changing ability which should be nurtured and utilised by the Irons. The truth of the matter is that Carroll has not been given the chance to show what he has to bring to the table in this new look West Ham outfit, and it could be that his injury woes are what eventually sees him leave the London Stadium, rather than not being good enough for the team. A target man is really what the Irons have missed this season – even if Marko Arnautovic is a giant up front – and the fans would no doubt like to see whether Carroll’s abilities leading the line can further improve the attacking options at their disposal. It sounds as though he will be given until the end of the year to prove his worth, but by that point it might just be too late.
