West Ham are set to receive the results of Carlos Sanchez’s injury assessment imminently as they fear the worst over the status of the midfield enforcer, according to club insider ExWHUemployee.

The reputed blogger, who is a recognised source of inside information at the London Stadium, reported in The West Ham Way podcast (01/10, 57:57) that the Irons are set to find out over the next 48 hours (Tuesday 3rd or Wednesday 4th October) just how serious the setback is for the summer signing, having picked up the knee injury in the 8-0 thrashing of Macclesfield last week.

It is said that the Hammers are expecting a long layoff for the former Aston Villa man, with Marko Arnautovic having held up a shirt with Sanchez’s name on it as a mark of respect after netting versus Manchester United.

Opinion

Once Manuel Pellegrini finds out how long Sanchez is out of action for, then he can start making plans on how to deal with the unfortunate situation that they find themselves in. With Jack Wilshere also out of action for a couple of weeks following his minor surgery, it leaves the Irons lacking any depth in the midfield for the short term, while a lengthy absence for Sanchez could mean the Hammers are forced to revisit the transfer window for yet another midfielder, having seen both the injured duo come in over the summer. Sanchez was never going to be a regular among the starting XI but despite that losing him is a bitter pill to swallow and it leaves Pellegrini with something of a headache when it comes to rotating his midfielders as the season intensifies – especially with the Hammer competing for the likes of the League Cup this season.
