West Ham hopeful over Snodgrass after injury fears

|

West Ham have been handed a boost over the fitness of winger Robert Snodgrass ahead of their clash with Tottenham after behind-the-scenes talks with Scotland’s medical staff revealed the status of his injury blow, according to the London Evening Standard.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Hammers were left fearing that the forward would be missing for their London derby against the Lilywhites, having seen him return to the club early from international duty with an ankle injury.

However, it is stated that the club and his country have been in communication and that Manuel Pellegrini is now expecting the 31-year-old to be able to feature against Spurs in what will be a boost for their hopes, with Snodgrass having appeared in every Premier League game this season.

Opinion

Snodgrass might not have been expected to play such a big role for the Irons before the season had kicked off but his dependability and talent down the wing has seen him stick around as a first team regular, despite the influx of new talent to the London Stadium. He might not be starting every game like he was at the beginning of the campaign but he is still an important option off the bench, and losing him would have forced Pellegrini to turn to someone else, probably a player with less experience and potentially less ability than the Scottish international. It seems Scotland sent him home as a precaution, with Sunday’s match against Portugal only a friendly outing for the countries, rather than there being something massively wrong with his ankle setback, and with a week to recover, it seems as though he is expected to play his part when Tottenham head east from north London in their league clash.
